A survey has revealed that the average cost for a wedding can exceed £30.000 and I believe that everyone should spend what they want – after all it is your day.
However, couples could be making more ethical choices for their wedding day and this in return might save the couples money which can be spend on other things.
If you are ethically minded you could choose plastic free, or offer less meat options, or support local businesses.
Here are some ideas for a more sustainable wedding:
Support local charities or charity shops as your go to wedding day needs. Choose your dress from Brides Do Good, a charity that sells ex designer sample dresses.
Go meat free with your food choices. Opt for an ethically friendly menu
Consider the carbon food print. Go electric or arrive with horse and cart
When choosing the flowers and vegetables stay seasonal.
Donate the flowers to a hospice or hospital or to the local care home to brighten up someone else’s day
Re use - Re wear for a change. Choose styles that can be used again and again. Or gift your wedding decorations to other couples.
Stop food waste – arrange for as little waste as possible or donate the left over food to a home less shelter or a charity
Choose plastic glitter alternatives if you want sparkle at your wedding. You can get biodegradable glitter from guilt free companies
Be creative and make your own wedding decorations and involve your family and guests. Repurpose things like pallets
Hire props and decorations or source second hand from charity shops. Use smaller independent shops rather than large chains or super markets.
These are just a few ideas to make your day more sustainable and to help your budget to go a bit further.
